Last year we had a very successful invasive species removal party at Fairyslipper Forest! Over the course of two days, a group of 20+ people clipped, pulled, and hauled more than 20 cubic metres of holly (!) from the Nature Reserve. A year later, and there has been little to no evidence of regrowth. However, another section of Fairyslipper requires attention!
The area near the connector trail to the newly minted Burchell Hill Trail has a small holly grove that is aggressively expanding. In response, ThINC is organizing an invasive plant removal party for Saturday, March 16th and Sunday, March 17th between 10am - 2pm (Meeting at 10am in the Fairyslipper parking lot). We will also be pulling the small Scotch broom near the parking area that was cleared two years ago. Join us for one or both days, or even a couple hours. The more help we get, the more we can pull! Bring gloves, pruning or pulling contraptions (broom pullers work wonders on these feisty plants!), and a lunch if you intend to stay the duration.
